Subject: Why we joined and are active members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of
Willmar

We initially joined the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Willmar in 1980 to provide religious
grounding for our children. Both Sue and I came from unclear religious backgrounds and
did not attend church in the metropolitan areas where we were living. When we moved to
Litchfield, the first thing we were asked was “what church did we attend”? When people
found we were un-churched they immediately invited us to their church. When we pointed
out that were not interested, they went to work on our children.

To keep our family together, we decided to find a church that would fit our beliefs. I had
learned about the Unitarian Church in a college Humanities course (Emerson, Thoreau, etc.).
We found the nearest UU Church in the Willmar phone book (this was before the internet)
and attended one Sunday in September. The small size and local nature appealed to us.

This was over 30 years ago and we are still active members. We make the drive from
Litchfield almost every Sunday. We enjoy the variety of Sunday Morning topics and the
fellowship with like-minded people. We recommend the UU Church of Willmar to anyone
looking for a liberal, un-dogmatic approach to religion.
